Nineteen years ago, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, together with Chantal Jeannelle, created the Clarke Trophy competition, uniquely reserved for chefs, hotel operators and restaurateurs.
With the help of Michel Rostang, golfer and president of GRIP (group of independent and brilliant restaurant owners), and thanks to the participation of the GRIP's Swiss counterpart (President Frank Rooskogler of the Grand Chalet in Gstaad), several chefs, the Gstaad cheese maker and the baker from Verbier got together on the greens for a sporting and culinary event in a spirit of friendship and good cheer. The Clarke Trophy competition has changed over the past seven years and is now known as the Clarke Trophy-Chefs’ Cup.
This year the event took place over two days, featuring:
- A gala dinner in the upstairs dining room of the Mont d’Arbois Club, attended by 180 people on Sunday evening (August 28th), prepared by the chef of the Chalet du Mont d’Arbois*****, Olivier Bardoux, under the guiding hand of Philippe Standaert, General Manager of the Domaine du Mont d’Arbois and recipient of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France award.
- The next day, Monday, August 29th, some 120 “chef” players teed off in a golf competition with an awards ceremony followed by an exquisite buffet. Fifteen professionals, chefs and their sous-chefs presented one of their specialties, either at the gourmet village located at the end of the Mont d’Arbois Club Golf Course, or on the fairway at the 18th hole where four buffets were set up.
The restaurateurs took advantage of this event to catch up with their friends and colleagues against a “greensome” background that added to the fun.
