Wines

From the acquisition in 1868 of the prestigious Château-Lafite at Pauillac by James de Rothschild to the launch of the Barons de Rothschild champagne in 2009, the Rothschild family has been involved in the most prestigious wines. In the 1970's, Baron Edmond made the daring decision to buy Château Clarke, Château Malmaison and Château Peyre-Lebade which all had to be restored from scratch.

As a demanding entrepreneur, Baron Benjamin grew the business even more. He extended holdings in the Bordeaux region by acquiring Château des Laurets in 2003 and took the Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild into new territory in South Africa and Argentina. He also encouraged all the necessary ground work in order to bring the wines up to the high quality reflected in the Rothschild name.
