This book is the first major work documenting the family's generous support of art museums and public collections in France—some one hundred twenty thousand works donated to over two hundred different institutions. The book covers art media from all continents and periods—from antiquity to the present day.
In this ambitious project, Pauline Prevost-Marcilhacy brought together fifty-three specialists, curators and academics from France and abroad to explore all aspects of this exceptional family's history of supporting the arts.
Les Rothschild: Une dynastie de mécènes en France was co-published by Editions du Musée du Louvre, BNF Editions and Somogy Editions d’Art under the direction of Pauline Prevost-Marcilhacy, lecturer in contemporary art history at Charles-de-Gaulle Lille 3 university. The book was awarded the Bernier Prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in October 2016.
