Agro-forestery - 05/12/2015

On 4th and 5th December 2015, Ariane de Rothschild welcomed Paul Oquist Kelley, Minister and Private Secretary for National Policies of Nicaragua and head of the Nicaraguan delegation at the COP 21, in the offices of Edmond de Rothschild (France).

Implementing Cooperation Projects in Nicaragua

On Friday 4th December, about fifty players of this investment project in agro-forestry were invited to a cocktail party hosted by Ariane de Rothschild with Paul Oquist Kelley and the team of the project. Among the guests were Christian Dubreuil, General Manager of the Office national des forêts, Eric Ponçon, from Nicafrance, as well as major investor representatives and agricultural research centres.

At this event, the Nicaraguan Minister pointed out that Nicaragua is a stable country, with the greatest growth in Central America and full of investment opportunities in agroforestry.

The discussions continued with a private meeting on Saturday 5th December at 47, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Ariane de Rothschild and Paul Oquist Kelley established the need to launch and develop more projects such as that implemented by Nicafrance with the support of the Edmond de Rothschild Group and, consequently, the increasing need for funding. They concluded by agreeing that Edmond de Rothschild Group's commitment in Nicaraguan agroforestry could only increase.

The Edmond de Rothschild Group, an Innovating Player in Agroforestry

The Edmond de Rothschild Group and ONF International (ONFI) launched this ambitious agro-forestry projects platform with the support of technical partners and major industrial groups.

The Edmond de Rothschild Group provides its financial expertise, its unequalled network and its experience in Africa and Latin America. The ONFI brings its network of offices in the target countries and its widely acknowledged expertise in forestry and agro-forestry techniques.

In addition to the economic benefits for investors, the projects we finance have a positive, concrete and measurable impact on the environment and local populations.

They are implemented on a partnership basis and create employment opportunities, increase producer income, fight against food insecurity and help improve health and education infrastructure. Use of the best agro-forestry techniques also ensures that deteriorated soils are re-fertilized, water resources are protected and deforestation is controlled.
