It all started in 1876, when Baroness Julie de Rothschild inaugurated her auxiliary schooner, La Gitana, on Lake Geneva where she smashed the speed record. Baron Edmond de Rothschild followed in her wake and developed a passion for monohull boats and ocean racing. Finally, Baron Benjamin de Rothschild transformed this family passion into a school of excellence and high performance with the creation of the Gitana Team in 2000. The steam boats have given way to slender monohulls and trimarans, at the cutting edge of technology, sailed by a team of top professionals.
With this creative and recreational installation, the Gitana Team pays tribute to 140 years of innovation and excellence, of performance and team spirit, of risk management and competition.
