6mR and 8mR yachts, long admired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild and his son Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, have competed in the regatta from the beginning and have a sterling record of podium success at both European and World Championships.
- In 2012, Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) SA decided to open up the competition to all "Classic" yachts. For a few days, Geneva's lakefront witnessed scenes reminiscent of the legendary Royal Regattas in Cannes, with some of the most beautiful boats ever seen on Switzerland's lakes coming together to compete. A wonderful time was had by all participants and the event proved hugely popular with the public. The regatta received widespread coverage in specialist media, which deemed it a roaring success.
- For the 2013 edition, the Organising Committee and Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) SA decided to inject new life into this major date in the racing season by inviting Classic Motor Yachts and other "Belle Époque" boats to take part. For the first time in the club's history, the sailing and motor-boating sections of the Société Nautique de Genève organised a joint regatta on Geneva's lakefront. The unique event attracted an impressive array of classic sailing and motor-boats for some exceptional races.
- The 2015 edition of the Classique Edmond de Rothschild will act as a curtain-raiser for the 8mR World Championship, whose competitors will take part in the regatta to tune up and get acquainted with the remarkable surrounds of the "Petit Lac" and Geneva's lakefront. This year's regatta looks set to be as unforgettable as ever.
