A new value-add strategy for European light industrial & logistics real estate
The strategy will target light industrial assets, which offer a yield premium over big-box logistics while benefiting from structurally constrained supply and greater reversion potential. The core principle is to generate alpha through active asset management delivered by local teams across strong European markets.
Edmond de Rothschild REIM has built a demonstrated track record of value-add mandates and benchmark-beating performance in its open-ended core-plus flagship industrial property fund. This new strategy is a natural evolution of that proven, successful approach, building on over 8 years of managing light industrial and logistics assets within the flagship Euro Industrial Real Estate Fund and underpinned by 25 years of broader industrial and logistics asset management expertise. It is backed by a strong local European platform with on-the-ground presence across 790 assets and 150+ colleagues spread across 7 offices in 5 countries.
Appointment of Niek van Genugten as Fund Manager
Edmond de Rothschild REIM announces the appointment of Niek van Genugten as Fund Manager in charge of the new value-add industrial and logistics strategy, effective 1 September 2026. Niek is based in Amsterdam.
Niek brings almost 15 years of pan-European real estate experience and a track record of over €2 billion of transaction volume in logistics and light industrial assets in Europe. Before joining Edmond de Rothschild REIM, he was Senior Transaction Manager at Frasers Property Industrial (formerly Geneba Properties) in Amsterdam, responsible for business development, transactions including capital raising and previously co-heading the European Acquisitions team. He began his career at Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance where he worked for 3 fund-of-funds at LP side with exposure to ~50 fund investments globally (all sectors).
Niek will be the fund manager of the new strategy which will benefit from his extensive value-add experience in the industrial and logistics sector. Niek will also contribute to the development of new Industrial & Logistics investment initiatives, products and solutions aligned with market opportunities and investor needs. Working closely with Edmond de Rothschild REIM’s local investment, asset management, fund management and investor relations teams, he will help coordinate expertise and opportunities across Europe. He will report to Theo Soeters, Head of Fund Management at Edmond de Rothschild REIM.
Theo Soeters, Head of Fund Management at Edmond de Rothschild REIM, said: “We are delighted to welcome Niek to Edmond de Rothschild REIM as we launch our new value-add strategy for European light industrial and logistics. His extensive experience of the European industrial and logistics real estate market, combined with his expertise in the value-add space, will be a major asset as we continue to expand our platform. His appointment will further strengthen our ability to implement value creation strategies for the benefit of our investors.”
Klaus Schmitz, Chief Investment Officer at Edmond de Rothschild REIM, commented: “This new value-add strategy is a natural evolution of our successful core-plus strategy, and of our broader mission to seek alpha for our investors. It reflects our conviction that active, hands-on asset management across strong European markets is the best way to unlock value in light industrial and logistics real estate. I am excited to see this platform grow, and I am confident that Niek's expertise will be instrumental in delivering on this ambition.”
